They called it the Great War. In over four years of titanic struggle, the ancient Europe of Kings and Emperors tore itself to pieces, giving birth to our own violent modern age. The bloody battles fought in the trenches of the Western Front, the icy plains of Poland, the mountains of the Balkans, and the deserts of Arabia, shaped the world we know today. We are all orphans of the Great War.

Paths of Glory: The First World War, designed by six-time Charles S. Roberts Award winner, Ted Raicer, allows players to step into the shoes of the monarchs and marshals who triumphed and bungled from 1914 to 1918. As the Central Powers you must use the advantage of interior lines and the fighting skill of the Imperial German Army to win your rightful "place in the sun." As the Entente Powers (Allies) you must bring your greater numbers to bear to put an end to German militarism and ensure this is the war "to end all wars." Both players will find their generalship and strategic abilities put to the test as Paths of Glory's innovative game systems let you recreate all the dramatic events of World War I.

In einem vier Jahre andauerndem Krieg von gigantischen Ausmassen hat sich das alte Europe der Könige und Kaiser selbst vernichtet und Platz für unsere moderne Ära geschaffen. Die blutigen Schlachten, welche in den Stellungssystemen der Westfront, den vereisten Ebenen Polens, den Gebirgen des Balkan und der arabischen Wüste geschlagen wurden formten die Welt wie wir sie heute kennen. Wir sind alle Waisen des Weltkrieges.

Paths of Glory: der erste Weltkrieg, entworfen von Ted Raicer, der 6 mal mit dem Charles S. Roberts Award ausgezeichnet wurde, erlaubt es den Spielern in die Fußstapfen der Herrscher und Heerführer zu treten, welche zwischen 1914 und 1918 ihre Triumphe und Niederlagen erlebten. Als Spieler der Mittelmächte muss man die Vorteile der inneren Linien und der Kampfkraft der Kaiserlichen Deutschen Armee nutzen um sich den verdienten "Platz an der Sonne" zu sichern. Als Spieler der Alliierten muss man seine zahlenmässige Überlegenheit nutzen um dem deutschen Militarismus ein Ende zu setzen und sicher zu stellen das dies ein Krieg ist der "das Ende aller Kriege" mit sich bringt. Beide Seiten werden ihre Führungskraft und ihr strategisches Geschick auf die Probe gestellt sehen da das innovative Spielsystem von Paths of Glory es ihnen ermöglicht die dramatischen Ereignisse des ersten Weltkrieges nachzustellen.

CARDS At the heart of the design are the 110 Strategy Cards. Each player has his own deck of 55 Mobilization, Limited War, and Total War Cards. Each card can be used to perform movement and combat operations, Strategically Redeploy units, accumulate Replacements to rebuild battered Armies and Corps, or introduce dozens of historic events. Strategy cards cover:
Guns of August, Chlorine Gas, Mata Hari, Flamethrowers, Cloak and Dagger, Landships (tanks), Zeppelin Raids
